Present a written argument or case to an educated reader with no specialist knowledge of the following topic:
Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Despite the fact that some people believe that learning a foreign language should only be done in order to travel or work abroad, I would contend that there are other advantages to doing so.
Studying a new language might improve your ability to communicate with people from other cultures. For instance, it would help you to become more familiar with another culture’s lifestyle and way of life if you watched movies or read books about that culture. Gaining proficiency in a language could also make one feel more productive and good about themselves, which would increase their self-confidence. Imagine, for instance, that someone is the only person in a group of friends who can communicate in a language other than their mother tongue.
Others claim that learning a foreign language is only necessary if anyone plans to travel or work abroad. I completely disagree with this. Due to the abundance of resources available today, including mobile phone apps, you can easily meet your fundamental demands for conversations with a foreign accent while traveling. The ability to communicate in one’s mother tongue is preferable for everyone when working abroad, but it is not sufficient; one also needs to be aware of the local customs. Additionally, English is widely spoken in advanced nations today, so it is not really necessary.
I’ll reiterate that learning a foreign language offers advantages beyond just using it when anyone travels or works overseas. It might improve one’s communication and self-assurance.
