Poor nations Could Not Get the Benefits of Globalisation

According to certain studies, despite unprecedented growth in international trade, poor nations have not been able to get the benefits of globalisation.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Model Answer

Certain data demonstrate that although there has been a tremendous increase in international trade, developing nations have not been able to reap the benefits of globalisation. I agree with this statement. This essay will elaborate on my position using counterexamples and reasons.

Firstly, poor nations often lack the infrastructure and the skilled labour force needed to take advantage of globalisation. They may also be disadvantaged due to their lack of access to technology. In addition, poor nations may be unable to compete with rich nations in the global marketplace due to their lower productivity levels. Most funds raised by foreign direct investment, often known as FDI, end up in the wallets of influential and wealthy individuals, with very little reaching most of the population in need. For instance, Brazil and Nepal are still on the verge of growth and development due to the negative acts of those in power in the region. Therefore, it is necessary to create severe laws and processes to maintain a constant watch on the movement of capital.

Globalisation has, without a doubt, increased international trade. However, this has not always led to an increase in the standard of living of the citizens of poor nations. Imported international brands are premium and expensive. Upper-class individuals are the only ones who can afford to purchase and carry them. However, the remaining individuals are neglected, severely affecting the country’s overall development. Brands such as Gucci and Prada are highly pricey and cater to a specific demographic. Therefore, it is essential to create items that meet the requirements and needs of every citizen.

In conclusion, globalisation gives several advantages to the populace, provided that they are utilised effectively and efficiently, keeping in mind the national and economic advancement as a whole.
