Is Capital punishment essential to control violence in society?

Without capital punishment (the death penalty) our lives are less secure and crimes of violence increase. Capital punishment is essential to control violence in society. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Sample Solution

For individuals who are typically convicted of murder, the highest form of punishment is death. These strict measures are required to deter criminal behaviour and to make it abundantly evident to offenders that violence is forbidden by the law. Despite the system’s potential drawbacks, I wholeheartedly concur that we would be more susceptible to violence without it.

To start, there are several reasons why people could believe that death is an inappropriate punishment. Their most persuasive argument is that giving criminals a second chance and aiding them in reintegrating into society would help create better people. Everyone needs opportunities that allow them to start afresh, even those who have committed inhumane atrocities. Additionally, there is a small but significant chance that innocent people will be wrongly given this permanent punishment.

On the other hand, it is believed that strict sanctions are necessary to reduce wrongdoings because they are most effective at inducing dread in those who are breaking the law. It not only makes sure that criminals won’t commit other crimes out of concern for their life, but it also establishes the legitimacy of the country’s judicial system in the eyes of its population. For instance, hanging terrorists would significantly reduce their ability to operate. Furthermore, the government wastes a significant portion of the nation’s budget on the upkeep of convicts when it could be put to better use by ensuring the well-being of all citizens.

In conclusion, based on the above-mentioned considerations, I firmly feel that even though it is disapproved of by some, the implementation of capital sentences is necessary for relation to public safety and the necessity for fewer acts of violence.
